Partnerships

Five ways to work with SDC.

SDC structures every engagement around a clear mandate, defined deliverables, and measurable outcomes. The right offering depends on what your organisation needs to own at the end of the engagement: a delivered programme, a platform, knowledge, strategic direction, or your own team's capability.

01

Programme Delivery

SDC designs it. SDC runs it. Partner funds it.

What it involves

SDC designs a bespoke programme architecture for your specific context, selection criteria, curriculum or competition format, mentorship structure, and milestone framework, grounded in research on your sector, target founder profile, and objectives.

SDC then manages delivery end-to-end: applicant recruitment, selection, programme execution, a culminating showcase, and post-programme reporting. Every engagement closes with a documented impact summary.

Best for
  • Governments & Ministries needing scalable, credible founder education as part of economic development mandates.
  • Corporates with CSR or innovation mandates needing measurable, fundable outcomes to report to boards or regulators.
  • Universities wanting to offer founder education without building internal infrastructure.
02

SDC OS Deployment

Platform for the partner's use.

What it involves

Your organisation gets access to SDC OS, SDC's proprietary learning platform, customised with your branding, learner community, and a tailored content track.

SDC's curriculum is pre-loaded and adapted to your audience. You own the learner experience and receive real-time data on enrolment, completion, and engagement.

Best for
  • Governments & DFIs needing to train communities at scale without building platform infrastructure.
  • Education bodies & foundations wanting structured founder education for grantees or students, branded as their own.
  • Corporates & Startups needing a white-labelled founder education layer inside an existing community or youth programme.
03

Research & Data

SDC produces the knowledge.

What it involves

SDC produces original research on behalf of, or in collaboration with, a partner on the African startup ecosystem, venture-building dynamics, or specific sectors.

Outputs include co-produced reports, custom ecosystem analyses, bespoke datasets, sector-specific briefings, and M&E frameworks for founder programmes. Partners can commission research outright or co-produce it, contributing data, field access, or funding in exchange for co-authorship and early access to findings.

Best for
  • Development Finance Institutions needing evidence-based ecosystem analysis to inform investment decisions.
  • International funders & foundations needing baseline or impact research to design and evaluate programmes.
  • Government & media bodies needing credible, citable, methodology-documented data on African founder activity.
04

Advisory

SDC advises institutions.

What it involves

High-value, low-volume engagements where SDC works directly with an institution's leadership to design or improve their founder support infrastructure: what frameworks to use, how to structure programmes, how to measure outcomes.

Typical outputs include programme design documents, framework application guides, M&E frameworks, ecosystem strategy papers, and structured recommendations. SDC does not embed in the partner's operations; it applies its frameworks to your specific context and hands over recommendations.

Best for
  • DFIs & corporate foundations building or restructuring SME or startup support programmes.
  • Government agencies designing national startup ecosystem strategies.
  • Large corporates building internal innovation programmes grounded in research-backed frameworks.
05

Training & Capacity Development

SDC builds your people. You run it.

What it involves

SDC trains your internal team to design, manage, and run your own founder or innovation programmes through structured workshops, executive training sessions, and applied capacity-building modules grounded in SDC's research and frameworks.

Centred on institutional strengthening in innovation management and innovation development. SDC's role ends at capability transfer. Once your team is trained, SDC is not running the resulting programme. It can stand alone, or follow a Research & Data or Advisory engagement as the applied next step.

Best for
  • Governments & Ministries or parastatals that want ownership of execution but currently lack internal capability in programme design, selection, mentorship structuring, or outcome tracking.
  • Corporates wanting to run their own accelerator, hackathon, or innovation challenge internally going forward.
  • Universities wanting their own staff equipped to run founder programmes without external dependency each cycle.
Don't see your fit?

Most institutional partnerships start with one of the five offerings above, but not every relationship fits neatly into one. If your organisation's need sits across offerings, or doesn't match any of them directly, we're open to structuring something bespoke.
